5 Things to Try This Month – February 2021

When I think of February, I usually immediately associate it with birthdays for my brother, friends, colleagues and myself.

However, this year when I think of February, I think about traveling. In fact, I think about Las Vegas, the last place I traveled to in February 2020, exactly 12 months ago. And I miss traveling; I miss the time when I could go anywhere without worrying about the pandemic.

Although I can’t go anywhere just yet, I can still fill my staying home with things I enjoy. Below are the things I am doing this month.

Nail

Instead of my usual red nails, I decide to go with orange color for a change.

Painting

I had so much fun working on my first paint-by-number art project last month. I am going to  work on my 2nd one, Venice by Night, in February. Below is what I draw so far. I am looking forward to see my final product.

Piano

The new song I am learning this month is Frédéric Chopin’s Etude, Op. 10: No. 3 in E Major. This song is also known as “Tristesse” or “Farewell”. Some sources claim that Chopin believed that this song is the most beautiful song he ever composed. I think this is a beautiful song, but I found it to be challenging to learn (especially the middle section of the song).

Accessories

I haven’t had any chance to dress up or wear any stylish boots since the pandemic started last year. But when I came across Stuart Weitzman’s red tall boots with skinny heels I knew I wanted to add it to my “to be worn” collection. I love the red color and the sexy skinny heels. I can’t wait to break into this pair of boots when we can resume normal social life again.

Beauty

I  am about to finish the Bobbie Brown eye cream I use. I want to try something new. After doing some research I decided to try BeautyBio’s “The Quench Eye Reviving Eye Balm”. It has nutrient-rich lipids to minimize the appearance of lines and improve hydration retention.

Sparkling Black Glitter Boots

Sparkling boots have been one of the popular fashion trends since last year. And for this year, many fashion houses continue to incorporate the glitter element into their Fall and Winter 2018 collection.

After the sparkling boots have been in style for many seasons, it’s no surprise to see different designers debut sparkling boots with slight design variations across different seasons. They all look nice, but if you look closely you’d know your preference over one to another.

For me, the most obvious example of two sparkling boots from different designer brands that look similar in some ways is the black glitter boots from Jimmy Choo and the sequins boots from Valentino Garavani.

For Summer and Spring 2018, Jimmy Choo released its Tesler Glittered Fur-Trim boots in black glitter material. The Tesler boot is unique because it has fur pom poms on the back of the ankle, but what attracts me to the Tesler Glittered Fur-Trim boot is its glitter material; a combination of grayish glitters and black velvet. The feel of this Tesler boots surface and its pom poms fur is extremely soft.

As for Valentino Garavani, it recently released its new Liquid Metallic boots in shimmering sequins. When I spotted this Valentino Liquid Metallic boots in the magazine, I immediately thought about the Jimmy Choo Tesler Glittered Fur-Trim boots. The Jimmy Choo Tesler Glittered Fur-Trim boots has glitter covered heels while the Valentino Garavani Liquid Metallic boots has solid black color heels. (In my opinion, the details on the heels matter a lot!)

Both of these black boots are made in dark sparkling material (glitters vs. sequins) and both have the glamourous sexy look. But I prefer Jimmy Choo’s Tesler Glittered Fur-Trim boots over Valentino Garavani Liquid Metalic boots, because I think the Tesler boots in black glitters seem a bit more classic with a fun twist.

Although the Jimmy Choo’s Tesler Glittered Fur-Trim boots in black glitter material have 4-inch heels, they’re surprisingly comfortable when I wore them (given I haven’t worn them for more than five minutes). The Tesler boots are still sitting in my closet waiting to be broken in. In the meantime, I am just happy that I got the Tesler Glittered Fur-Trim boot for my sparkling boots collection.

Since Stuart Weitzman’s iconic 5050 Boots popularity hasn’t decreased over the past two decades, it’s no brainer that it should be the new addition to my wardrobe.

I just recently ordered a pair of the 5050 Boots in black leather. If you live in the Pacific Northwest like I do, there is still plenty of time to wear a knee-high boots. And I know exactly what outfits I am going to wear with my new 5050 boots!

Christian Louboutin Moulamax Unicorn Sequined Leather Boots

When designers add glitter or sequins to a fashion item (i.e. clothing, shoes, or bag), they instantly upgrade the style and add more visual value and appeal to the product. In my opinion, not only do most of the sparkling fashion items looks great, they are also classic pieces that you can keep in your closet and never get tired of.

Sparkling boots were one of the must-have trends in the recent season. As a fan of glitter shoes, I purchased several boots made with these eye-catching, sparkling elements, and among the boots I got was a pair of Christian Louboutin Moulamax Unicorn Sequined Leather Boots.

Christian Louboutin’s Moulamax Unicorn Sequined Leather Boots are covered with silver sequins. On the reverse side of each silver sequin is shimmering colors (either green, gold, red, pink, or silver). You can be creative and sweep the sequins to make your desired pattern. And you can wear the boots in all silver or multi-color.

I personally like to wear my Moulamax Unicorn Sequined Leather Boots in a mix of silver and multi-color patterns. This shows the uniqueness of the shoe design. I also like to pair the boots with my short red dresses. In my opinion, a red color silhouette is perfect with anything that sparkles!

Christian Louboutin’s Moulamax Unicorn Sequined Leather Boots were launched for Fall and Winter 2017. To me, this pair of sequined boots is also perfect for Spring and Summer!

I Love My New Frye Phillip Harness Riding Boots

Last year I bought a pair of Frye Phillip Harness Riding Boots in Burnt Red. I liked the style and color very much, and so when I was in San Francisco for a birthday gathering a few days later, my friends and I went shopping and we all bought a pair of boots from Saks. I got the Frye’s.

After I bought the red pair, a few days later I saw the same style in Black. I really liked the Black, but I hesitated because, first, I had just bought a pair boots (the Burnt Red Frye’s), and second, I already have several pairs of black boots.

But I really wanted those black Frye’s!

So, several months after my trip to San Francisco, one night I was browsing online and discovered the Frye Phillip Harness Riding Boots in Black, on sale! This time I didn’t hesitate and bought them immediately.

Fast forward a week later, I received my boots. I wore them to work the very next day.

I love the way the boots fit me, their feel, and their look. I was in great mood all that day long. As Lady Gaga sings, “You are who you wear it’s true. A girl’s just as hot as the shoes she choose”.

Fall 2014 Trend: Over-the-Knee Boots

Boots that are over-the-knee have been around for many years. You might remember in the movie “Pretty Woman”. Juliet Roberts, when she was “working” (as a call girl), met Richard Gere, and was wearing black patent, over-the-knee boots with high heels. At that time, such boots were considered a bit too sexual.

PrettyWoman

Fast forward to Fall 2014. Over-the-knee boots are the current fashion trend. In 2014, tall boots usually come in either high heel style or flat sole style. These boots come in several different materials, including leather (both with and without a pattern), suede, and combinations of synthetic and leather materials.

Frye Shirley Riding Over-the-Knee Boots

My current favorite is Frye’s “Shirley Over-the-Knee boots“. I am a big fan of all Frye’s boots and what could be better than Shirley wearing a pair of “Shirley’s”! The leather on this style is soft, unlike some boots which can be a bit too stiff. And the style is versatile enough so that the boots can be worn with skirts, jeans, or casual dresses.

If you’ve been thinking about a new pair of boots for this Fall or Winter, check out over-the-knee boots.
